In the Portland Business
Journal’s special report on law firms, published January 30, 2015, Rizzo
Mattingly Bosworth partner Kevin Clonts was among a handful of respected Oregon
attorneys asked to weigh in on the state of the profession.
In addition to surveying the
attorneys about which areas of practice are on the upswing, the Portland
Business Journal hit on the issue of hiring outside counsel. In
response to the question, “What should a business consider before selecting an
attorney?,” Kevin suggested that businesses would be well-served by determining
whether the attorneys they are considering have sufficient experience with
litigating contract disputes.
“Too often, we see contracts
drafted by lawyers who have little idea how judges apply those contracts,” said
Kevin. “And, you don’t want a ‘yes man’ or ‘yes woman.’ Though
getting to ‘yes’ is what it takes to succeed, a good attorney will reel you in,
if need be.”
